Coloradoan Conversations is the Coloradoan's opinion forum. Each Friday we'll pose two conversation-starting questions online at Coloradoan.com/opinion and moderate online discussion through the following Wednesday, recapping the best discussion points online the following Friday and in Sunday's printed edition.

This week's Coloradoan Conversation Starter:

It’s been 25 years since Fort Collins last updated its Land Use Code, a rulebook for developing land in the city. Back in 1997, Fort Collins’ population had just crested 100,000 and the average cost of a single-family home was below $175,000. With a population now closing in on 175,000 and average home prices surging past $600,000, the Fort Collins City Council is looking to update the code again.

What are the most important changes that should be included in any update? Consider: housing type and size, density and infill development, parking, compatibility, affordable housing incentives and goals, housing capacity and review processes. What should not be included?
